  This  looks  familiar to  me.   I had  some  Open  Firmware problems  (setting
properties is one important feature that comes to mind) with an older version of
the sysmtesim-gpul. All I had to do  is upgrade to the latest, and things worked
fine. 

  Make sure you've got the "Apr 3 2006" version.
