The Linux module we currently have and the one we will be updating to
will not support this.  Updating to a newer linux base which may support
this may involve significant infrastructure work (we currently depend on
devfs, which is going away so we'd need a new scheme for /dev).

Right.  Waiting for an XServe version may solve this (XServe's have
serial ports).
