[K42-discussion] K42 build.sh script not working with Fedora Core 4 installation

Hi,

This attached script uses gcc 4.0.1 with glibc 2.2.2 and linux kernel
2.6.11.13 with crosstool 0.38. From what I've seen at the cross tool
website, this is a tested configuration.

I give the command ./build-0012.sh buildppc64compiler

The compilation fails with the following message :

Configuration powerpc64-unknown-linux-gnu not supported

Configure in
/opt/ibm/k42/build/crosstool-0.38/build/powerpc-unknown-linux-gnu/gcc-4.0.1-
glibc-2.2.2/build-gcc-core/gcc failed, exiting,

failed compiler build

What might the reason be and how can I resolve this error ?

Best regards,

Elvis Dowson

installation

Hi,

I ran the script, but then it stopped at one point because it was
detecting the host gcc compiler v4.0.1. How can I go about fixing this ?

I have attached the modified script with this email. Thank you and I hope to
hear from you soon !

Best regards,

That script definitely looks changed from when I last worked with it. I
would try with the latest versions of gcc/glibc/cross-tool. The problem
seems to be incompatibility between linux 2.6.9 and gcc 3.3.3. I would move
to the latest kernel and gcc. I'd try without changing glibc first, then
update glibc.

Generally gcc/linux are only compatible with versions that came out at the
same time. It's a nutty way to develop software but that's the world of
linux at the moment.

My other suggestion is to drop back to the original script and live without
the new tools :)

Hi,

Thanks a lot for the quick reply ! I have attached the script with
this email.

The script proceeds to download everything just fine, but then gives a
problem with mconf.c relating to redeclation of a static variable, under
/build/powerpc64-unknown-linux-gnu/gcc-3.3.3-glib-2.3.2/linux-2.6.8/scripts/
kconfig

Is it possible to run K42 using an updated version of the linux
kernel-2.6.16 and gcc 3.4.1 ? Also, is it possible to use the latest version
of crosstool-0.38 ?

Thank you and I hope to hear from you soon !

Best regards,

Elvis

I'm not familiar with the -0001.sh script. That may have been a modified
version from what I had produced. Can you send it?

When I wrote that script BK was the preferred way to get the kernel but git
is the current method. bkbits doesn't maintain it anymore anyway. I could
probably modify it to work properly though.

Hi Cort,

I hope that you are doing fine ! I just downloaded the K42
build script from the K42 discussion archives and tried running it on my
Fedora Core 4 installation, but nothing happens.

When I issue the command ./build-0001.sh buildcompiler, nothing happens. I
have modified the script so that TOPDIR=/opt/ibm/k42 and BUILD=/
opt/ibm/k42/compiler-build

When I issue the command ./build-0001.sh buildcompiler getlinux, it says
updating/getting linux, Linux is up-to-date

However, nothing has been downloaded in the above directories.

I tried the older build.sh script and that started downloading some files,
but it aborted mid-way. Since you mentioned that build-0001.sh was the
latest version, I prefer to stick with this version and would appreciate it
if you could kindly help me get this script to work.

Thank you and I hope to hear from you soon !
